An idea For solar energy, what about instead of using batteries to store the energy that they gather why not use the energy for electrolysis to convert water into hydrogen and oxygen, we could use the oxygen for a whole lot of stuff and could burn the hydrogen for fuel Are there any big downsides to that.

What I’m finding is there are downsides to everything. Personally I would prefer water power (hydropower) where we just get energy from running water. I know people say it disturbs wildlife but that sounds a little silly to me to say we can’t build a dam but we can build a power plant. They both disturb wildlife. And they have started dam designs that allow fish, etc. to swim around it. I think going with something reliable and more simple has advantages too. I mean, if the nuclear power plant stops working and needs replacing then how quickly can it be replaced or fixed? If the answer is it’ll be too expensive to ever fix or replace if it gets broken then that’s a problem if the whole country runs on it and suddenly there’s no power. That’d be worse than 2020’s lockdowns. So we probably need backup systems in place too in case of disasters which honestly happen very often nowadays.
