i find science great instrument for explaining questions like what, how and when but it falls short to give meaning and answer the question why. Without a creator, what you think or what society considers as good is not important because everything is subjective. In my opinion we need God in our lives. Optimistic nihilism is basically using pragmatism to produce the best trade-offs, to derive temporary meaning. The only issue I have with it is that you have to sweep real problems under the rug so much that they pile up, you can never actually eliminate problems when they must be created to get a better outcome. But you can pretend that they're not problems not or you can normalize them where they are so they're not.

You bring up a good point though. If you decide your own purpose, and that purpose is just as legitimate as anyone else's purpose, and that purpose includes causing immense human suffering (like shooting up a school) then who's to say that what you did was bad? You ultimately decide good from evil, and if you don't deem something evil, and that's just as legit as someone who deems it evil, then neither of you actually have the authority to say that something is good or evil. So who has the authority to separate good from evil? Ultimately, a sentient creator who created humanity with a purpose. There are ultimately three options, first, there is a God, but because he didn't assign meaning to his universe for whatever reason, there is no meaning or morality. Two, same outcome as the first, but there is no God. Or thirdly, which is that there is a God, and He intentionally assigned meaning to his universe (which implies morality for humans along with that)

Okay so story time when i was with my ex I did acid for the first time and we were on a verge of break up i wanted to avoid this but when i was high i relized that nothing truly matters and that thebonly thing that matters is what we do here and now so i ran from my friends house down to hers almost died three times on the way there and all this just to get shut down to be told its nice seing you.............................. Not gonna lie it was the first time i experince what this video talked about but after that experince, it died and i went back to being a normal nihilism
