The desire to be free from the limits of the human experience is as old as our first stories. We exist in an endless universe, only bound by the laws of physics and yet, our consciousness is trapped in mortal machines made of meat. With the breathtaking explosion of innovation and progress, for the first time the concept of leaving our flesh piles behind and uploading our minds into a digital utopia seems possible. Even like the logical next step on our evolutionary ladder.

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
Wow what a journey. Over a year ago CD Projekt Red got in touch and asked us if we would like to make a video about some of the scientific or philosophical aspects of Cyberpunk 2077. Just like most of the internet we were super excited and eager for this game to come out finally. The Witcher series is one of the most entertaining series we played ourselves and Cyberpunk seemed like it could genuinely top even that. So it was a super easy yes from us and we went on to make the video, putting in a lot of love and care to do this collaboration justice. And of course, as the release date got pushed back, our video release date did too. So we have been keeping this video a secret for quite some time, hopefully you like it. When this video comes out a good chunk of the Kurzgesagt team will either download or already be playing the game. If you want to get it too and support CD Projekt Red directly get the game here: http://cyberpunk.net/buy

If you believe in "mind uploading" then you must also accept the a prori postulate of Cartesian Dualism. But here's the thing: There's no good reason to accept Cartesian Dualism. If you're sufficiently read in current psychology and philosophy you probably already **don't** subscribe to Cartesian Dualism. In fact, science (especially nutrition science) is now demonstrating all the ways in which the secretions of the non-brain portions of the body affect the consciousness in avenues such as memory, mood, personality, perceptive ability (focus) and so on. For example: The immune response, blood glucose balance, gut micro biome, endocrine system, sex hormones and intestinal secretions of serotonin can all severely perturb (or enhance) the quality of one's thought and focus to the point where prolonged disturbances can lead to permanent or semi-permanent cognitive impairments like Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, ADD, psychological disorders (anxiety/depression) or autism spectrum disorders. So Who's Mind is it Anyway? Is it whatever portions of cognition that may be isolated solely to the brain of the cranium? If so, this is certainly a truncated "you" which is bereft of the essential affects and coloration of the consciousness which produces "unique" individual variations in mood, personality and cognitive ability. The body *is* a mind and the mind *is* a body (a discrete system of causal mechanisms).

If you are interested about these themes play SOMA or Nier: automata. You can actually play those games unlike Cyberpunk2077. SOMA and Nier: automata are the most philosophical games there exists.

scary part of all this, is that even if we could recreate consciousness, it’s not the same thing as transferring it. the copy of your mind is not the real you. the real you will die, and the new copy of you will continue to exist, meaning you will still face and go through death, which kind of ruins the whole point. the bigger goal should be the goal of being able to completely TRANSFER consciousness, not just recreating it.

After watching this I got to the conclusion that we won't develop the technology to upload or keep a brain alive using nanotechnology but the Artificial Intelligence, and the reason is because we're limited to make calculations and decisions as humans, in the ends A.I will surpass us and it's up to us create an isolated artificial intelligence so it doesn't go out of control and is capable of developing technology further.

it's impossible to upload your mind and live forever , because there is another major thing you need to understand , the real holder of the your mind is your soul , because the soul is the thing that controls your mind , and when you die the thing that rest from your body is only you soul
Prieš dienąGillsing
Before we have the technology to upload a mind we will have enough knowledge of the brain to mind control _everyone._ I'd rather not be alive when that happens. But if I am, I guess I wouldn't be mentally able to complain about it.

I always find myself thinking about the limit of the technology, but watching this video I realized that we already know what the limit is, we just haven't managed to reach it yet. The limit is "organic" technology (that is, ourselves), if one day we can store data as efficiently as our brain can, we will know that we have reached the limit. If you think about it, our body is the perfect "computer", the best "invention" of evolution on our planet to date, we just need to keep copying it, as we already do.

Dear Kurzgesagt people. I am going to write something which I experience, but cannot easily "prove" to another person. I have determined for myself that mind and consciousness are actually two distinct things. The physical mind is the collection of neural pathways and electro-chemical signals passing along those pathways. Consciousness is made up of something else entirely, that exists on a different plane. What is a plane? Well, of course I don't mean an airplane, those machines we use to fly in the sky. I mean a plane of existence. I'm not sure what it is myself, only that I am able to experience it. If I had to describe it, I would say it's another state of consciousness that obeys somewhat different rules than the one you're used to in the physical plane. OK, so how do I know I am not my mind? Well, I can separate myself from my physical mind and have experiences that are not connected to the mind. I do this by centering my attention and leaving the physical plane of consciousness. Here is an analogy for you. Suppose you wanted to prove to yourself conclusively that the Earth is round. You can look at all sorts of evidence (like the curvature of the shadow on the moon during an eclipse), but as they say, seeing is believing. If you got into a rocket and went into orbit, allowing you to look down on the spherical Earth and orbit it a few times, it would take a really obtuse person to persist in believing that the Earth was flat at that point. Likewise, once I was able to focus my attention properly and leave the physical consciousness, I was able to "see" for myself that, yes, I am not my mind. The mind appears to be a kind of container or maybe feature of consciousness. So what IS consciousness? I don't know. It might be possible to invent technology that would allow its transfer to a different vessel, but I don't think just uploading the contents of the brain would do it. Here comes another analogy. Before we can solve the gravity problem like in the movie Interstellar, we would need a better conceptual model for gravity. Is it in fact curvature of space-time? If so, how do we manipulate that curvature directly ourselves? In the same way, I think we need a better conceptual model for consciousness. All we really know at this point is that we are conscious, and that's it. We can't even really confirm that anybody else is conscious, just ourselves. Until we know what it is, or at least what comprises it, I think technology that can manipulate consciousness directly is quite far away.

Computability is the only certainty. I’ve been researching this topic for over 5 years. If you’re looking for immortality, the key is either AI, Genomics &/or cell research. Mind uploading cannot be done without AI.

Immortality by proxy..., But at the end of the day, the cyber copy of you is still a COPY - a digital clone. It’s something which (hypothetically) can live forever, while the biological you has died long ago. Those around you won’t know the difference, but maybe that’s consolation enough. For me, the hardest part of confronting Death, isn’t fearing my own mortality, but the agony of bereavement, knowing that someday I will never see my loved ones in person ever again.
